Mental strength coaching is…
Mental strength and performance coaching involves teaching clients mental skills like imagery, relaxation, goal-setting, attention training, and productive self-talk. The use of mental skills has been shown to greatly influence individual performances and well-being. Clients can learn performance mental skills in individual mental strength coaching meetings. Further, team building experiential activities can help increase a team’s cohesion, satisfaction, and performance. All work performed by mental strength coaches through the CPE is supervised by Dr. Linda Keeler and Dr. Jessyca Arthur-Cameselle, who are both Certified Mental Performance Consultants with doctoral degrees in sport psychology.
Mental strength coaching is not…
Mental strength and performance coaching is not personal therapy. Those in need of services for coping with excessive levels of stress, personal and relationship issues, or mental health concerns like generalized anxiety and clinical depression, should seek services from WWU’s Counseling and Wellness Center or from licensed mental health care providers in their area. Although mental strength/performance coaching is not a mental health service, CPE staff are trained to assess mental health issues and know how to refer clients to mental health care.
