The 2016 Presidential Election has changed the political landscape of the United States and placed an increased focus on political engagement at every level – regardless of age, background, and political affiliation. People from every corner of this country, some of whom had previously viewed politics and elections as something that happened with or without them, have now begun to find their voices and engage directly with their communities and representatives. Across the country, students at Universities have joined in a discussion about the importance and impact of politics, engaging in various ways and at every level.

As history shows, this isn’t the first time that the relationship between students and politics have shifted. Moments of great political upheaval and change are often characterized by the reactions of students on University campuses, including at Western Washington University.

This website sets out to understand why student political involvement is important by examining it’s impact at Western Washington University both in the past and in the wake of the 2016 Election, as well as to get people thinking about their own engagement with politics.
