Week Two

What did you love this week?  What would you have loved to have achieved this week?

I LOVED the pitches and pitch off. I was extremely drawn to the energy and happiness that exuded from the Zoom room. I’m super proud of my team and how well we did on our pitch. However, I would have loved to achieve the time limit and gotten to fit our pitch in under 5 minutes. I also would have loved to been more involved and knowledgeable about what was going on, I still feel a bit “fish out of water” like when I am in the big group because it feels like a scramble to catch up still.

Please share your personal experiences and the lessons you learned from completing VP1 this quarter? How may they help you have a successful and fulfilling VP2? How will you put that into action?

I really loved completing VP1 this quarter. I learned how to work well in a new group in such a small amount of time. Although I felt like a burden on the others, I learned that I can be valuable with what I bring to the table and even if someone wouldn’t want me at said metaphorical table, someone does. I think this will help me have a successful and fulfilling VP2 because I know now how to interact professionally and how much time I may need to prepare different aspects of Ventures. I know what to expect and I will put these lessons into action by trying to generate organizational habits before VP2 starts so that I will intuitively know how to do it.

What challenges are you facing? What’s Next?

Like I said above, I still feel like a “fish out of water” but I think that I just need to settle and catch up sufficiently. This “What’s Next?” question seems so vague and non-descript, however to me it seems to ask what is next and what plans do I have for any amount of time in the future so: I am thinking of pursuing my writing as a type of income I can create. However this is far in the future. For short term “What’s Next” I would say organization of work, and perhaps a type of matrix or chart with a to-do list for every day so that I can catch up sufficiently and lose that “fish out of water” feeling.

  1. Thanks, Alex! You will get into the swing of things, I promise! I know it can feel overwhelming and like you are struggling to catch up. But know that as long as you’re trying your best, you’ll there! Please feel free to reach out to me on Teams if you’re ever in need or more support. I got you!

  2. VP1s this quarter were AMAZING!! I’m so glad that you were able to find pride and energy in the pitch off, and I cannot wait to see what you accomplish in VP2. Feeling out of place is totally normal, especially in a new program and in the online setting where you “know” these people but you haven’t really met them yet. The energy you talked about is hopefully contagious though, and I am confident that you’ll feel less out of water as the quarter progresses! I started with E&I back in the spring, so I totally get that feeling, and (I know I said it last time but hey it’s true!) I am always here to support if you ever need anything!

  3. You are doing awesome Alex keep it up! I understand when you can feel not entirely settled in yet, so don’t sweat it! I also like how you are already starting to problem solve and help yourself out. A good tip that an E5 mentioned was that writing everything out and keeping a paper trail (or e-paper trail) can help a lot too! Anytime you start to feel overwhelmed feel free to reach out too! Quad powa!
