Students selected one living organism in the Salish Sea region and studied it all quarter. They observed it live and in person if possible, but also learned about the organism’s characteristics, behavior, relationships and habitats through books, articles, imaging and illustrations. They researched what is happening with this organism and its habitat. They investigated human uses and stories if any: history, folklore, medicines, tools, and art related to this organism. They collected their observations, study, thoughts, drawings in their Commonplace Book. This project was inspired by an installation by the artist Ann Hamilton, The Common Sense, at the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle.
