BIO

I am an Associate Professor of Spanish and Linguistics in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and Affiliated Faculty in the Department of Linguistics at Western Washington University.
I instruct courses in Hispanic/Spanish Linguistics, World Language Instruction, Bilingualism, Languages in Contact/Pidgins and Creoles, and Sociolinguistics.
I serve as an advisor to the World Languages Teaching Endorsement Program students, primarily in Secondary Education in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, as well as Elementary Education in French, German, and Spanish.

Off campus, I enjoy traveling, immersing myself in multilingual and multicultural contexts, and spending time with family.


RESEARCH INTERESTS

Hispanic linguistics, sociolinguistics, language contact, creoles, linguistic landscape, language attitudes and ideology, bilingualism and second language acquisition, and critical discourse analysis.
