Undergraduate Summer Research Awards

These two undergraduate summer research awards aim to support students’ ability to engage in research. We encourage all students to apply. The WWU BNS program celebrates people of all backgrounds, and we strive to be more inclusive of those typically underrepresented in the field. This includes individuals with disabilities, first generation college students, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.

Undergraduate students will be selected for their demonstrated interest in behavioral neuroscience research and enthusiasm for a graduate degree or health professional program.

Two Summer Research Awards Available for Summer 2025! (Only One Application)

Deadline to Apply is April 7th 2025

  1. Dr. David Goldman and Dr. Linda Blackwell Summer Research Award – $6,000
  2. Behavioral Neuroscience Program Summer Research Award – $6,000

Qualifications:

  • Be a current BNS major
  • Involved with a BNS faculty member’s (PI) research lab
  • Must also enroll in classes the fall quarter after summer (not graduate spring quarter prior to summer or during summer quarter)
  • Student employee eligible

Application:

  • Brief 1-2 page personal statement describing how participation will assist your future goals and what makes you an outstanding candidate for the award. The personal statement in word file format is uploaded on the application form.
  • Brief 1-2 paragraph statement of support from faculty describing the proposed research project, emailed directly from the faculty to bns@wwu.edu.

Recipients:

  • May earn up to $6,000 based on hours reported, a max of 40hrs a week at $19/hr between 6/16 -9/15.  
  • Must write an end of summer summary (minimum 1 page) describing the research work done so accomplishments can be shared with the donors.
  • Encouraged to submit abstract or talk for annual department PsychFest in spring quarter 2026.

The deadline to submit is Monday, April 7th at 5:00 pm. Late applications will not be accepted. Applicants are notified of a decision by May 5th 2025.
