When the survey for this project was conducted, 120 people took it with varying ages, the majority of those people were between 18 and 20 years old. The survey started with three questions asking about three different fonts. The first font that was asked about is the font Times New Roman, followed by Comic Sans, and ending with Arial. The three questions were based on automatic reactions to the three fonts. While Times New Roman was the most liked with 58.3% of people having a positive reaction, Comic Sans had the most negative reactions with 58% of people having automatic negative reactions. Following the reactions to fonts a follow up question was asked about why people react the way they do to Comic Sans. The largest percentage of people said they dislike the appearance of the font, stating that was the reason they had a negative reaction. Two questioned followed about social stigmas around the font Comic Sans. The first of the two questions asked if people think there is a social stigma against the font, and 80.8% of people said they do think there is one. The second question asked about online evidence of a social stigma, in which 71.7% of people said they had seen evidence somewhere online. When asked no one said they would use Comic Sans for a professional paper, only 12 said that it depends, while the remaining people all said they wouldn’t use it. The last question asked participants what the first word was that came to mind when hearing the words “Comic Sans”. 58 people gave words directly related to the words “unprofessional”, “childish”, “elementary school”, and “comic”.
