Discussion: Lynda Barry
We discussed:
- The difficulty of Barry’s form: how it doesn’t guide the eye in typical ways, how it has multiple layers of text and image competing
- Some students see the form as inviting, something to get lost in, something they could emulate in their own work
- The usefulness of Barry’s journalling practice for brainstorming, idea mapping, etc
- Barry’s model of bravery, drawing without worries about good or bad
- We will practice some of her techiques in future classes
