Presentations:

  • Justin Heckt X
  • Megan Russell presents an art comic prototype of her own design called “Press Play.” It follows a woman who discovers how to time travel in her car. She designed the cover using Vector Images. It will likely be closer to a written novel with some images throughout.
  • Sandra Park gave an elevator pitch for a slice-of-life, semi autobiographic about her adventures on Spring Break. The protagonist will be drawn as a bunny.
  • Brendan Newell X
  • Jacob Shelley EP X
  • Margaret McKay collage contrasting X
  • Marcus Thornton gave a demonstration of a character he designed for a children’s book Man’s Planet, which he previously self published online (thru Lulu.com)
  • Amberly presented her Why Comics statement. She talks about her apprehension to begin working with comics, since she hadn’t drawn in many years. Barry and McCloud both emphasize the clear communication style of simple drawings and cartoons, which gives her a clear way in.
  • Julia presented a collage exploring contrasting comics styles between two female artists, Brittney William Marvel’s Hell Cat and _ Brunetti’s Old Man Logan. Though the styles are starkly different (cute vs photo realistic).
  • Brie Collage X
  • Kieran presented his Why Comics statement. He had always thought of comics as dweebish, and since he already felt like a dweeb, he was never brave enough to dig in. Now he’s finding fascinating topics in analyzing comics from different cultures, and also dissecting the communicative powers of the comics medium.
