Presentations:
- Brendan gave a proposal for a nonfiction comic about dissociative identity disorder. He wants to use the comics form to demonstrate the ways the disorder distorts experience of reality. He wants this to walk a line between a diagnostic tool, and a sensationalized story about “this amazing disorder.” Instead he wants to make it informative, approachable, and focused on the practicalities of treatment.
- Devon presented her finalized art comic prototype, Robin Hoodie. After workshopping the script, she created a first page and concept art of the characters and setting.
- Brie presented a collage exploring the styles of two contrasting comics, Sex Criminals and Transformers. Her collage draws attention to softness vs hardness in line.
- Amberly gave a pitch for an autobiographical art comic called “Fat Cat,” a failed love affair between a cat owner and her beloved cat who (who is over it). The comic will largely be non-narrative snippets. She showed a collage of her idea in development.
- Rock told the story of the Batman Nos 426-429, “A Death in the Family.” The story follows how the writers wanted to kill off an unpopular iteration of Batman’s sidekick, Robin. The authors opened a public call line to get fans’ opinions of whether Robin should live or die (fans voted die). Fans felt the death deepened the Batman lore, and it spawned the most iconic comics death scene. This Robin later was brought back to life as The Red Hood.
- Matthew presented a collage he built using Prezi presenting two versions of the web-based Manga One Punch Man. The artist originially conceived and drew it in a very basic style, but it was re-drawn with higher detail.
