Our names are Brenden Clark and Hunter Hjort. We are both Freshmen attending Western Washington University.  The purpose of our research is to show anybody interested in computer science how code can be similar to learning a language. Our website is simple to use and self explanatory. At the top right of the page we have our drop down menu with all of the categories from top to bottom of our research process. Please feel free to roam and learn from the information we have collected about computer science and its relationship with language.  To conduct our research we used a multitude of online resources, survey responses and short answer responses from students at Western Washington University.  So, What is computer science and why is it important?  Computer code or program code is defined as  the set of instructions forming a computer program which is executed by a computer. This source code is translated into machine code by a compiler or interpreter so that the computer can execute it to perform its tasks. We decided to go with computer science as our main topic for our research project because we believe that, in many aspects, code is similar to human language. We were curious to know more about the world of coding and programming. Western Washington University has a reputable C.S. program so we figured that it would be quite easy to get some insight from students. To narrow down the endless possibilities available with computer science, we decided to research the ways in which learning code is similar to learning a new language and why different coding languages differ. Our question is significant because code is the basis of computer science and computer science is everywhere we look. Not only is computer science responsible for countless functions in today’s society, it is also one of the fastest growing fields of study. Programmers are very high in demand as major tech companies such as Google and Amazon compete with their constant releases of cutting edge technology. Hopefully our research project will give better insight to non computer programmers as to what coding is like and how difficult it is to learn.
