Data

Aside from our online surveys, we found multiple articles that pertain to our question. From those articles our general takeaway was that computer code is a “language” between computers and humans. We as humans just have to convert our thoughts and commands through an order of 0’s and 1’s. Computer code is a way for humans to translate our thoughts into these one’s and zero’s. We also learned in an article done by Matt Sherman that different computer programming languages all serve the same purpose which is to give commands to the computer in the form of 1’s and 0’s; but the way that humans interact with the languages vary and serve different purposes which is why there are so many different languages. From our online survey, 8 of 10 of our survey participants agreed that code has at least one relationship to language. One student said that learning code is more like learning the alphabet while another said code is similar because code has its own grammar. The overall takeaway from our survey was that code has many different relationships to language some very prevalent and some a little more questionable yet most participants agree that they are similar in some way.
