The Co-Op Project

Engaging with the History of a Community

Albert Fields

A single call, an initial question, or connection can lead to new possibilities. Albert Fields saw the potential for change a single phone call has in action as the Co-Op grew. During his eight years with the store, a portion of which he spent as the board’s president, Albert made a few calls. In his oral history, he details how the Co-Op changed throughout his time there, and records some of the history of Bellingham’s buildings as they passed from owner to owner, shaping today’s community. He also recognizes the ways various parts of the community, from truckers to farmers, came together during the Co-Op’s early stages of growth and kept it going.
