Kevin Murphy

Over five decades, Bellingham has undergone extreme changes, and the Community Food Co-Op has developed alongside it. Kevin Murphy recalls the development of the Co-Op, some of its struggles, and how the issues that arose within the Co-Op sometimes reflected the changes going on within Bellingham’s culture. As the store’s founders moved on in life, Kevin witnessed some of the disorientation as both the cultural and physical structure of the store changed. His oral history provides listeners a lens to see Bellingham as it was in the ’80s, as well as the growth into the city’s current state.
