I am a freshman at Western Washington University, currently considering a degree in Linguistics, but who is still undecided about his own future. However, more importantly for the sake of this webtext, I have a hobby of writing fiction, whether short- or long-form. I began sometime in the second grade, over a decade ago, and since then I have followed that life to the point where I am now. Writing fiction is not as simple as writing an outline, creating characters, and diving right into it, despite what your English teachers may have told you. It is an entire process that requires the writer to get into the right headspace, lest they get stuck at square one.
As such, when I delve into any given topic, I tend to think like a writer. I consider what the narrative behind any given situation is, extending arcs in my head to try and predict where events will end up. This is what a writer does in their regular work, and if they didn’t do this then their writing would lack any sort of depth, which is essential for keeping the reader engaged. This variety of exploration extends to work regarding the subject of writing itself, which is kind of like squaring a number in a sense, since the art of writing is analytic by nature. New depths of understanding can be reached by delving into the practice of writing from the perspective of a writer. I intend to explore that field here, and perhaps do a bit of introspection into my own personal life as a fiction writer.
I have elected to do so using several different modes of communication. The audiovisual will be used here just as purposefully as the written word.
