About

The ICDS Student Advisory Council (SAC) is an independent student-run committee within the Institute for Critical Disability Studies. Both undergraduate and graduate students at WWU are involved. The council works to represent the disabled student perspectives and voices at all levels of the Institute’s operations. As an advisory board, they provide recommendations and student priorities to the ICDS.

Additionally, SAC works to create a safe and supportive space for disabled students and allies to foster a growing community of inclusion, accessibility, and disability culture. Meetings are held at least every month throughout the academic year to discuss the needs and priorities of the disabled student community.

The SAC Student Leadership Team members are compensated for their labor as paid ICDS employees. Job openings for Co-President, Secretary, Social Media Coordinator, and At-Large Representative may open when a leader plans to graduate or leave their board role. Students who have engaged with the SAC previously and students who are ICDS stakeholders (students who have engaged with the ICDS through coursework, Minor, and/or employment or other community-building roles) are prioritized in the hiring process.

Meetings

The SAC meeting times change each quarter. Meetings are held hybrid both on Zoom and in person in the Interdisciplinary Science Building IS 242. Meetings are open to all! Masks are available for in-person attendees.

WWU’s main campus occupies the ancestral homelands of the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, Coast Salish Peoples who have lived in the Salish Sea basin and throughout the San Juan Islands and North Cascades watershed from time immemorial. We express our deepest respect and gratitude to our Indigenous neighbors for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
