Hello everyone! So to keep things short and simple, I have compiled a list of 10 things that I have learned while being in Estonia!
- Dill here, dill there, dill everywhere! Estonians love to put dill in every dish!
- Estonians are really quiet while Russian Estonians are the exact opposite.
- Estonians are good in sports. Beastly in volleyball and competent in snow walking (I fall and slip while walking).
- As long as you stop for people crossing the street and the traffic light, there is literally no speed limit when driving.
- The food is pretty similar to US foods. Restaurant foods consists of fries, burgers, wraps, salads, beer, etc. (I was hoping to lose some weight, but sadly I gained some pounds…)
- WHERE ARE THE WATER FOUNTAINS? In the US we have water fountains almost everywhere thus encouraging hydration. In Estonia, the fountain is the bathroom faucet.
- Estonians are hard workers. My supervisors work 9+ hours a day, sometimes without a lunch!
- Moderate cost of living. Since changing into the Euro currency in 2011, the economy has mimicked of those countries in western Europe. Although it has mimicked the system in western Europe, somethings remain pretty cheap such as food and accommodation. Others things such as gasoline, clothing, and technology merchandise remain pricer than the US.
- Small country, big opportunity. In the past few months, I have gotten to meet and know some pretty powerful people. People including those of the US Embassy, presidents, delegates from other neighboring countries, etc. I have had many chances to go to different offices and interview ministry operated programs.
- The beauty of nature. Estonia is really similar to the Pacific North West where it is covered with green flat lands, mini lakes, and trees. The only thing that is missing are the mountains and hills.
