Applying to DRAC: Getting Started

To help your student group determine if they should apply for membership in DRAC, please complete the following steps.

Step 1. Determine if you qualify for DRAC membership

Please mark “yes” or “no” to the following questions. If an item is unclear, consult DRAC’s list of definitions to help determine if your proposed activity fits within DRAC’s mission and purpose.

Question 1: Is your student group/activity departmentally related (co-curricular or extra-curricular activities with faculty supervision housed within an academic department)?
Question 2: Is participation in your group/activity open to all students enrolled in WWU?

If you answered “no” to question 1 or question 2, your group is not eligible for DRAC. If you answered “yes” to both question and question 2, please continue to the next questions.

Question 3: Does your student group/activity represent Western Washington University in an intercollegiate academic competition?
Question 4: Does your student group/activity present an artistic or academic production or event intended for a public audience?

If you answered “yes” to either question 3 or question 4, your group is eligible to apply for DRAC membership.

Step 2. Carefully review the DRAC charter and expenditure guidelines

Please review the DRAC Charter and Services & Activities Expenditure Guidelines on the DRAC web site.

Step 3. Make an appointment with DRAC Budget Support and Department/Program Budget Support Personnel

After reviewing Steps 1-3, please schedule a brief DRAC membership meeting with the DRAC Budget Support Administrator, who will briefly review DRAC membership responsibilities with your group, give recommendations regarding appropriate initial budget requests for your DRAC constituency, and explain the formal application process.

Step 4. Plan for Probationary Period

If your group decides to formally apply for membership in DRAC and is successfully admitted, be aware that there will be a three-year probationary period during which the named faculty representative and student representative(s) shall attend and participate in all meetings but may not exercise voting rights. Failure to follow through with meeting attendance and participation could result in expulsion from DRAC at the end of the probationary period.

Step 5. Complete a Formal Application

Download the DRAC application form and budget template. Be aware that while your group can (and should) consult your faculty advisor(s), students should be the primary participants when preparing and presenting their application to the committee. Completed application materials should be emailed to Rebecca.McLean@wwu.edu.
