Kiera reported S&A is discussing that the preliminary recommendation is for $10.00 fee increased.
Ted Sealey – Distribute the Spring distribution by request. Set the money aside for Western view that was originally intended, with the idea in mind that there may be some sort of restructuring. The other DRAC constituency will receive 99.1%. Would also leave $4065.00 in the DRAC reserve that would potentially be for future years. Or give to everyone what they requested leaving $1501 that can go to next year. Or the 3rd option would be to distribute all the money $4665 in reserve, and that 1501 extra would go out to everyone and each DRAC constituency will get a little more.
Western View does a video once a quarter. Seems like social media made the video obsolete.
Jim DeWilde makes a motion: Distribute unspent 2013-2014 Western View funds to provide 100% funding of each of the other DRAC constants with any remaining Western view funds (estimated at $1501) will be used to fund one-time expenditure requests (for example, a computer purchase or a musical instrument repair). Any remaining funds in the Western View fund will then be distributed to the other DRAC constituents according to the percentage splits of the DRAC Constituents.
Steve Woods second the motions. 6 to 1 in favor.
Western View can’t get money without coming to a DRAC meeting to have departmental representation.
Steve Woods wants S&A to show their work when the numbers are going up. This is a good summer for enrollment and being told there is less money this year. This is an %18 decrease. There was some money put in reserve. Ted Sealey wasn’t entirely conscious on how they were coming up with the numbers. Kiera said it is not just this is what the numbers of people enrolled, it is tuition waivers, student teachers who do not have to pay the fee, so it does not show the actual revenue.
A motion to ask the S&A committee to show their numbers. Do a Sunshine request. Show us the numbers is the easy way. A request that this is state money and how is it spent.
Ted Sealey –
Would like to get the Summer distribution out as early as possible (fall quarter). Ted is trying to get a motion on the table to distribute summer money as soon as it is available. There is a potential for an 18% shortfall.
Glen makes a motion based on Ted’s suggestion: Distribute Summer money based upon what is available as a percentage of what each summer constituent requested.
Heather Dalberg second.
Vote – 6 in favor
Steve Woods abstained
Challenges for DRAC in years past. Sometimes it is hard to find students that want to represent each of the areas. A good idea to bring students out in a desire to represent DRAC and get some benefit for their own careers. DRAC would provide all student membership a letter of
recognition describing what they have done and how they helped, and the students could put it on their resume and take forward to future employees. The faculty could use that as a plus to help them get involved. All students should have recognition for serving on these committees. Who puts together a letter of recognition, and each year. Chair student recognition letter. Dealt with 5 million dollars of student dollars to put on your resume. Service is something you want to demonstrate.
S&A meeting tomorrow.
We won’t have information till the first meeting in the fall. That is something we prioritize.
An email will be sent out if we need another DRAC meeting next week before Dead Week.
9:50 – meeting adjourned.
