Anticipation…

To me, anticipation is a quiet but constant state of being. I have the hardest time separating myself from the feeling once it begins. The only thing that helps is to go about my stuff and try to calm my brain that way. That’s why my soundscape is pretty subtle, it doesn’t exactly grab my listener’s attention right away. Rather it slowly enters their space and becomes more and more  chaotic. Towards the second half one should start thinking what even is the point of this (much like the actual feelings of anticipation). Just when they think it will go on forever, a sweet piano tune enters the sphere. I placed this here in place of the event we are feeling such anticipation for. Often it does not match the emotions before and is quite fun or beautiful. That’s what I hope my piece reflects! We’ll see…

  1. the crackling sound around 0:45 to me really feels like the pit in your stomach waiting and the jitters of waiting. it is getting more chaotic much like the chaos that we are all feeling trying to get ready for this trip.

  2. The way this slowly increases in chaotic audio is really perfect, the crackling and heartbeats and sharp pitterpatters are so accurate. I also love your idea of representing the achievement of getting to Italy with piano music, it was the perfect crescendo to this nervewracking experience of anticipation. It was so calming and triumphant.

  3. I really liked your take on this prompt! The gradual increase in the volume and different sounds were a really great representation for what I feel anticipation might sound like.

  4. What animal did you record? I really enjoyed what ever that was, was it you? And the gradual building of sounds does bring up feelings of anticipation. The piano, is it you playing? If it is, give yourself credit! If it is not give the artist credit in the post. Who knows, they may discover it someday and feel appreciated.

****I also like the photo. It’s really well composed. Can I use it? I have to update the department website. I’d like to feature it. And I’ll be sure to give you credit 🙂
