anticipation – sounds of home

This is a small soundwalk of sorts, a documentation of my journey home from school. However mundane this trip is, there is a lot of beauty that I know I’ll come to appreciate when I’m off, outside of my comfort zone. It captures the anticipation of leaving my routine behind through transitory audios and fast walking but is also appreciative and present of the moment with sounds of putting a record on and listening to friends make dinner in the next room over. It feels preemptively nostalgic, which is a big aspect of anticipation – knowing you’re about to leave something behind while still experiencing it.

  1. Elliott!! What a beautiful soundscape!! I know that one of the things that I’ll miss the most while I’m away is family dinners. 🙁 Nothing feels better than sitting down at the table and talking with your people after a long day. I hope we get to experience a few family dinners together in Italy as well!!

  2. I like your idea of preemptive nostalgia in this piece! You really communicated that feeling though your piece. The audio was clear where it needed to be, and each scene faded into the next very effectively.

  3. Elliot, I love the panning. How the walking comes from one side and the other sounds from the other. Really good, effective way to make a spacial experience for your listener. I’ll give some more audio workshops as soon as I get my circadian groove back. I could see the tracks move too, maybe the song moving into the center at the end to signify and change. Well done!
