First Impressions – Not alone at night

Crickets chirp from beneath the cobblestones, Im sitting on a bench in the fish market, bars and restaurants surround me, music plays, people laugh and talk and eat. There’s noises in the background like a strange siren, calling you into the night (its really just me and S “oooing” into a stairwell).

  1. I feel the same way about Italy. I’ve seen people talk to strangers in such a connected way and just general happiness around everyone. You could say it is our way as Americans lagging in the ways of an Italian and learning their way of life.

  2. Kay – This was so beautiful, raw, introspective, and so thoroughly poetic. It so perfectly vocalizes how I’ve felt that I want to send it to my friends back home. Even if the rest of the themes don’t require radio-style recountings, I would love to hear your thoughts and reflections here:)

  3. Walking around Italy really has been different, I really don’t feel the same anxiety or fear walking here that I do in the states or Bellingham, night and day. Being in a non car dominate city really changes things I think. It’s another way people are forced to connect and maintain community.

  4. This hit hard. You capture a lot of emotion and speak so plainly about vulnerable subjects, which is refreshing. I’ve noticed the love the city seems to breathe as well. This is so poetic and beautiful amazing job.
