Waffley Glad You Stopped By!

While food usually is not alive, it always has a personality. Like how onions always make people cry. How no matter how hard you try, there’s always that one pea that won’t get on the fork. How bread always lands butter side down when you drop it. How sometimes, the salt shaker seems to get up and walk away when you need it most. Food can be comforting when you’re sad or lonely, and it helps you celebrate special occasions.

But does eating while reading help reading comprehension?

The observations conducted at the WWU dining halls gave shape to this research study. Compared to the number of people who were eating and not reading, the majority of students were reading something while they ate. Some stared deep into their computers eating slowly, others analyzed their phone screens eating occasionally. One student’s fork missed their mouth altogether. There were also people who were reading, but didn’t have as much food on their plates. Maybe they ate faster, ate before reading, or were there for hours.

Regardless of speed, the observations showed that many students eat while they read. When it comes to reading comprehension, what is its personality? Is it helpful or is it a distraction?

These questions are a big dill to all those students. They guide it to the end where it reaches a conclusion on whether eating and reading should be done together. This information affects a large amount of people, and is crucial to these students who don’t want to end up in a pickle.
