The data collected for this study alone was not enough to make a conclusion. Very few people took the survey, so the results did not steer the study one way or the other. The purpose of the observations was to support the survey results. Since the survey results didn’t answer the research question, the observations did not support that part of the data.

Because of this, the information gathered from other studies was important. The sources determined that reading while eating decreased meal memory. It distracted the brain. They also determined that eating affects how the brain processes information.

A lot of people do other activities while they eat. This study was designed and executed with students in mind. Students especially, do a lot of reading while they eat, as seen in the dining halls. The observations helped reinforce why this topic is important. Between work, sleep, and class, they try to do things as efficiently as possible to save time. As a college student, and especially after seeing that the majority of the dining hall population eats and reads, I think is information that students need to know. It is important for them to know that to help their reading comprehension and their food memory, to do each activity separately. Song: Midnight Snack by Johan Lilja
