Dreaming in Cuban

The theme of love I am identifying in Dreaming in Cuban is the juxtaposition found in the family. Through the bolstered family tree, the grandmother and her offspring are opposite supporters of the revolution. Along with this contradiction, Felicia and most of her children don’t get along. However, through all of their differences, it is clear that the Cuban love disputed through the difficult family is incredibly strong and loyal.

Felicia coaxes her young son to join her. Celia and her granddaughters enter the house on Palmas Street, to find Ivanito, his dimpled hands clasped, singing the lyrics to a melodramatic love song. Quieres regresar, pero es imposible Ya mi corazón se encuentra rebelde Vuélvete otra vez Que no te amaré jamás” (Garcia 39).
