Jon Kime credits Western for teaching him to write, really write, and thanks his long-retired professors for doing a great job. He has been teaching Lean Six Sigma in the Professional Development Center of the University of Washington’s Tacoma branch for ten years, and he recently had the thrill of learning to teach via Zoom in the middle of a quarter.
Robert Stothart (BA 1978)
Robert Stothart’s essay “Company Town” appeared in West Branch in winter 2021. His essay “Opera House” appeared in The Missouri Review in spring 2021 after winning the journal’s Jeffrey E. Smith Editors’ Prize for nonfiction the previous year. Robert still remembers the remarkable friendship and teaching of George Muldrow and Marjorie Donker from his time at Western.
Thomas Martinsen (MA 1976)
Eight years after retiring as an English teacher at the Milwaukee Technical College, Thomas Martinsen still enjoys reading. Most recently, he finished and enjoyed The Sunday Philosophy Club by Alexander McCall Smith.

Art Blauvelt (BA, 1973) is healthy and still working as lawyer and part-time judge. After Western attended University of Puget Sound Law School, practiced in Tacoma and then moved to Montesano, WA in 1981. Married to Linda (WWSC 1974), with two children and two grandchildren. Served 14 years on Timberland Regional Library Board of Trustees and just completing 10th year as Grays Harbor College Trustee. Loves hiking and touring Southwest Utah and New Mexico and traveling to Europe.

Robert Stothart (BA, 1978) won the 2018 Conger Beasley, Jr. Award in Nonfiction from the journal New Letters for his essay “Cataract Surgery.”
BA, 1978: Richard Jenseth
Richard Jenseth (BA, 1978) is an Associate Professor of Film and Representation Studies at St. Lawrence University, and is currently serving as Director of SLU’s New York City Program.
MA, 1972: David Caulfield
David Caulfield (MA, 1972) is currently working on the final revision of his novel, Ever a Fighter, originally published by XLIBRIS in August 2016.
