Technology in Comics: This piece show the theme of technology with examples of how we communicate and how we might communicate in the future. Comics usually have an element of comedy with their drawings, this can be a written joke, a funny drawing, or a mixture of both. In this case, there is an element of comedic daring and writing. The comic shows the progression of communication through a conversation between two characters in where technology is evolving and changing how they interact with each other.
I chose this piece because the reader can make their own judgement of technology from how the author illustrated the theme. Some can view the piece as a negative view on technology. This assumption can be made because, one can think that we are becoming more and more disconnected with each other in terms of human interaction. One can also see this as a positive view on technology. I make this conclusion because through the evolution of technology, we have become more connected to each other than ever before. I can see how this evolution could become problematic in the future, as seen in the comic with the final panel showing two “people” becoming something completely different. This is an exaggeration to show an extreme scenario of how technology could affect us in the future.
The comic genre is able to give a visual illustration to the reader for a more casual and relaxed reading experience. There is also the unique comedic effect incorporated within the genre that gives off a light-hearted mood to an otherwise serious theme. By doing this, the theme reches a wider audience that would otherwise be uninterested. Comic’s have the unique ability to get different audiences interested in a topic by using comedy to catch their attention.
