Field Narrative: A particularly interesting trend that I’ve noticed so far from our collected data, is that 50% of the people who have taken our survey, marked down for experiencing some type of negative effects or impacts from the use of social media. Despite this, 30% of people who took our survey marked for going on social media in any spare moment during their typical day. It’s weird how although social media has impacted the majority of people in some type of negative way, it still consumes so much of our life, and we keep spending so much time on social media. Adding onto this, 76.9% of people who took our survey, marked using their phone or social media as an escape mechanism: (e.g. when in an awkward position, don’t want to talk to people, am by themselves, etc.). This is interesting to see because while the majority of people are using social media despite it’s negative impacts, the majority of people are also using their phones and social media to turn to when they’re in “negative” situations.
Personal Update: Our research on social media usage and its effects on people has has gone quite well so far. We’ve received lots of data in form of over 100 responses to our surveys, as well as have conducted numerous interviews. Although, we are a little behind on our schedule, as we would have liked to have completed more interviews by now, I still think we are on track and will be fine. We have plenty of data that’s been collected through our surveys that have shown really interesting results. Our next deadline is to have all of our data compiled is by the 9th, which I think is doable, considering we just need some more interviews. If we keep at the pace we are at, we hope to start designing our poster after the 9th, so we will have it ready to print by our printing appointment on the 16th.
Ah! Your first comment is so sorrowful because THAT is a reason our society is experiencing this wide spread affect of negative self-image and anxiety. Sometimes we drink poison, knowing that is in fact poison
