I completed all my research studies through the Sona system. The first one was learning from video lectures. I simply watched a ted talk while taking notes and took a test on the ted talk after They were measuring how different forms of note taking affect how well people do on tests. For this study I think I fit into it well because I am a current college student and could benefit from these results. This could be useful information for all students if one method does in fact help turn out better test scores. I am also interested to see my own results from the test. I prefer hand written notes rather than on a computer which was what was required for the study. I wonder if I could have done better when taking notes in my preferred way.
My next study was investigating attitudes regarding sentencing for juvenile offenders. For this research study I had to take a lengthy survey. I believe my participation will be valuable since I am freshly 19, while legally I am considered an adult I’m still very young and closer to juveniles in age. This could offer insight on how younger people view sentencing for juvenile’s viruses someone older who may not relate.
The last study I participated in was perceptions of values among college students. This was my longest study. I had to take multiple surveys, both before and after I was presented with different data. I was also asked to recall at least 6 different types of incidents from my past. I think I am a prime candidate for this study because I am a college student. Especially with being a freshman in my first quarter, I might have different perceptions than some older people who have been in college for a while. This could help to show how values change among college students throughout time.
Looks great Marissa, from one researcher to another, it is great to have people participating in studies. Your observation about your value as a participant is very self-aware. You’re right, a participant your age is great, since you have one foot in adolescence, and one foot in adulthood.
Keep up the good work!
