Emma and Ava’s Extension Project Reflection

I wouldn’t say my attitude towards literature or reading changed between the beginning and end of this research study. I’ve never really enjoyed reading, nor have I ever really read for fun throughout my life, and that did not change throughout this study. I wouldn’t say I ever dreaded reading any of the pieces in this study, but I also wouldn’t say that I necessarily looked forward to reading any of the pieces either. Some pieces were more interesting to read than others, and some were easier for me to read than others. However, I did enjoy that it wasn’t the same type of reading every day. Going into the study, I had no idea what kind of pieces I would have to read, but I sort of just assumed that it would be similar genres every day, which was not the case. I was glad that the types of readings differed, even if I enjoyed reading some more than others.  

My favorite piece that I read throughout the study was the webtoon, even though I didn’t really like it. I know that it sounds strange that I didn’t even like the favorite piece that I read, but that’s because I wasn’t a huge fan of the actually reading itself, and more of a fan of the fact that it may have introduced me into a genre that I might enjoy reading more than other genres. Going into the study, I didn’t think that I would enjoy reading a webtoon or graphic novel, nor had I ever really tried to read one before. However, after reading this one, they seem more intriguing to read in the future. I didn’t necessarily like the piece itself, but it may have presented me with a new genre that I enjoy reading more than others.  

I would definitely say that my knowledge of literacy is greater due to this study. Not only did it expose me to types of literature I have never been previously exposed to, but as I stated above, it may have introduced me to a new type of literature I enjoy reading more than other genres. However, with that being said, I still wouldn’t say that my attitude toward literature and reading changed significantly. Reading, including reading graphic novels, is still something I don’t see myself doing for fun or in my free time in the near future.
