High school
They say high school can do one of two things for you,
It can make you more mature,
Or it can bring out your childish side,
They say it allows you to find out who you really are,
But does it really…
All the assignments, rules, teachers, administrators…
Them all trying to forge you into this perfect student…
Your writing, speech, eating habits, what you do on your free time,
They try to change you into someone that they believe is perfect,
Can it be possible that everyone has their own idea of perfect,
Our Imagination plays a role in our daily lives,
Imagination allows us to take ourselves into the direction in which we think is perfect
Walking through the halls wondering what people are thinking about you,
It’s all a part of our imagination so let yours run free…
I want to do a poem because my narrative is about a personal experience in high school. I wanted to use a poem to explain what to do in high school and how it should work and what they expect. I just felt like in high school everyone always preached that this is the time where you find out who you are and who you want to be. But, the rules that are put in place don’t allow you to do that. The rules, teachers, principals try and forge you into what they think is the perfect student. Meanwhile us being us don’t want all the hype, I mean some do want all the attention and to be the perfect student but most of us just want to live life and make our own decisions. This poem for me was a way to communicate and expand what my experience means and what it can do to help the next student and the future students. My poem being form my point of view is enough because for my age a lot of students and teenagers don’t speak up because a lot of adults think of it as being disrespectful when really, we are just being ourselves and trying to make a life of our own.

I really like your honest and clear word choice. You don’t beat a round the bush when it comes to telling your audience how you feel. This is a powerful poem–Great job!
