My name is Ava Pierson, I am a sophomore in college with no declared major as of right now. I was born in Chicago, Illinois but grew up in Lakewood, Washington. I think what makes me unique as a writer is the mediums of writing I most frequently partake in. There are not many people I can name that journal often, which is something I do at least once a week. I have been journaling since I was eight or nine so sometimes it feels as obligatory as flossing my teeth or clipping my fingernails. Additionally I’ve been writing poems since I was eleven. I think I am an impatient writer when it comes to journaling, I always want to skip to the “best parts,” so I fail to tell a complete story. With poetry, every line can be the best part. So I would say my talent resides in poetry writing, though I wish I had a second opinion.
The webtext my partner Emma and I created showcases our theory that reading creative writing every day is beneficial in a multitude of ways. Some of those benefits include stress reduction, engaging in analytical thinking, ability to make connections with the text and day-to-day life, etc. Our webtext includes the methodology of our 10-day experiment where we sent out short stories, poems, excerpts, etc. every day and the results of that experiment. The pages that follow include a discussion of our findings in relation to that theory and a conclusion. The last two pages of our webtext features the readings we each chose, the questions that were sent out with those readings, and some of the responses we got.
When creating this webtext we made careful decisions that would make our website the most accessible. During peer reviews a student with a disability told us our homepage was confusing and difficult to navigate, so we responded accordingly, deleting the unnecessary “second homepage” that the design layout had originally had. Additionally, we wanted to make the webtext more creative than our poster had been, so we included an extra page where we posted the actual questions we sent out with each piece every day, and selected responses from our test subjects. I think this will give our viewer a deeper insight into to the experiment and overall make our webtext unique.
