Javareah’s author statement

Hi! My name is Javareah Owens I am an English 101 student. I am from Federal Way, Washington. I went to Kentwood high school and then made the decision to go to Western Washington; this school really stuck out to me because the people are so friendly and helpful. The school’s academics exceeds my standards and the environment all around the school and in the general area is beautiful the sights that you have access to over here are beyond amazing. All those things are how I am here now and plan on being here for a while and I love it so far.

One of my favorite classes right now is English 101 it teaches you a lot of life skills and allows you to express yourself through your work. This class has helped me learn skills that will help me in the long run such things like, job applications, applying to graduate school, or medical schools, etc. What makes me a unique writer is my ability to get creative and branch off topics and somehow tie them all back into one. I love creating new stories and free-writing and I also love prompt writing. My best skill I guess is appealing to society in a way to let people know what is going on in a teens life and how some of us are trained to think a certain way. While others think freely, and nobody has taught them how to do things they are more self-taught more than anything.

My partner and I have created a website that in a way explains society today. Our website is about our research on if social media makes communication easier and if it ruins face to face communication skills rather than help. We went through interviews and sent out surveys to get answers. We had some surprises in our data that got us to think maybe teenagers only use social media because most are impatient, and it is efficient. Also social media will allow them to express themselves and think before they speak necessarily. The fact is that face to face communication is more rapidly thinking and just speaking the first thing that comes to your mind. While social media platforms allow us to take a step back and think, they also allow us to come to what we believe to be the most logical answer, while also being very time friendly. The website will allow you to see what we came to discover as the answer to our central question. It will also allow you to make a conclusion of your own or design your own research topic that you want to continue, from what you gained from our sight.
