Upon reading both our literacy narratives, we noticed a bit of overlap in our themes. Our first theme we aim to portray is a lack of confidence. In Javareah’s case, lack of confidence in his abilities to write. In mine, interacting with my classmates. To symbolize this in our audio clip we have the song “Echo” by Jason Walker playing, its lyrics read “hello, hello… is anyone out there?” In close proximity to this, there is a nervous laugh. The laugh placed over the song represents our defense mechanisms as we deflect the feeling of low self confidence and try to laugh it off instead. We also use repetition of the laugh to emphasize our continuous struggles to fit in. The next theme we presented is shyness. Lack of confidence and secrecy creates a product of being shy. Javareah became shy with his abilities to write after being discouraged by his teacher. I became shy from being isolated by my classmates due to my parents overbearing dictatorship of my life. In our audio, there are kids playing in the background. To contrast this there is the nervous laugh and cry for help (Jason Walker song) as we don’t quite fit in, and are too shy to. The next theme presented is a need for secrecy. To Javareah, secrecy protects his fear of being further ridiculed for his writing. In my case, I desire secrecy because throughout my childhood I got very little freedom to choose anything, but that changed when I got a journal; I wanted to have something strictly to myself. In our audio clip, we have a melody called “Sneaky Snitch,” by Kevin Macleod that represents our need to keep to ourselves. Aligning with all of this is a background sound of traffic, this is meant to represent our overall anxiety in trying to fit in while we are burdened by low self confidence, shyness, and secrecy.
