I am really enjoying this project and how the interviews are turning out! For our interviews, we are playing 5 separate music clips, all of them 30 seconds long, and then asking people how those clips made them feel, what memories it brought up, and a color they would correlate with the song. We put the color question in as an outlier to kinda see if there would be any patterns, or if it would have nothing to do with music. To our surprise, there have been a lot of people saying the same color for the songs. The most surprising one is out Demi Lovato song. A big percentage of our participants are saying they think of the color purple when hearing the song. We don’t know why they think this, but it would be interesting to look more into it and figure out the correlation. Some of the other songs make sense with the colors people are associating with them, like our Ben Rector song and people saying green and yellow because it sounds like summer.
Personally, I think our research is right on track and going even better than we planned. We have 17 interviews right now and our goal is 30, so we are on track to finish them by this week and get started on our poster. Our data we’ve gathered is putting us in a good spot to have an interesting end result that isn’t necessarily predictable. I changed my approach a little from when I started, and I have been asking questions while the song is playing so that I can get raw answers while the participants are in the moment, and I’m not sure if that is changing anything, but it has sped up the process.
I’m very happy with our project and can’t wait to get more interviews in so we can finalize our results
It would be interesting to compare the colors people say for certain songs to the colors that certain artist evoke in either their advertising or publicity.
Keep up the good work!
