In total I participated in four research studies, three online and one in person study that took a fair amount of time to complete. The three online studies all had to deal with how much and what aspects of a story that people recollect when they read something. In each study I was given multiple short pieces of writing and then a questionnaire after that to see what parts stood out the most. The in person study was much more rigorous than all of the other studies, It took around an hour to complete. The first thing I had to do was watch a five minute video of people walking around in a hallway, once that was done I had to answer around fifteen questions on what I had just seen. After that I has to do some on the hardest sudoku that I have ever done, that was also timed which automatically made me stressed out. After I had nearly completed the first of six sudoku problems the time was up, after that I had to go and watch a similar video to the one I had before and answer multiple questions once the video was complete. After this was complete I was debriefed on the purpose of the study; it was to see how much cognitive tasks such as the sudoku which make you think a great deal affect how you pay attention when viewing social situations. Going into and in the middle of the study I really didn’t have an idea of what it was about, I don’t think any participant knew; which makes all of the data for the study very valuable.
Wow. These are all much more diverse than I expected. I thought they would be a bit more bland, but that sudoku one, how crazy. I think I would have froze up, and not be able to fill out a single tile.
