Hello my name is Elijah Breslauer. I’m 18 years old and from Seattle Washington. Currently a freshman at WWU, previously graduated from Ballard High School. I haven’t chosen a major yet however, I am planning on something related to business such as business management. Currently taking General University requirements related to business. I am Peruvian, Native Incan American, and German Jew. My Peruvian and Native Inca American comes from my Mother’s side. She was born and raised in Calca Peru. A small village in the sacred valley of Peru. She came to the US after obtaining a college bachelor’s degree in Cusco. Her parents family hid being Jewish for they lived in Spain at a time where it was unsafe to be Jewish. My German Jewish part of me mainly came from my father. His family lived in Hamburg Germany and his father fled Germany during the holocaust. He was allowed asylum through a affidavit to Pennsylvania after getting out of Dachau. A lot of my writing stems from my parents and my heritage. As a writer I believe I am very unique. I have always been told one could hear my individual voice through my writing. Most of my writing occurs through academic work rather than writing for fun. I never enjoyed writing until recently soley completing assignments out of necessity. However, within the last two years I have grown to be proud of my final products and the massages I can relay through writing. The writing I most enjoy are personal stories of events or morals either mine or others. I love understanding how people think and hearing funny or emotional events in their past. I think my talents lie in these types of writing telling my stories and past experiences.
My partner in this project was Tor Samulsen. Our project was about the correlation between exercise and academic comprehension. This is a link to it – https://wp.wwu.edu/elor/. We chose to focus on the motivation and focus part of academics. We conducted this project later adapted into a wordpress by surveying students at WWU. This was completed mainly online through the WWU incoming freshman Facebook page. Participants were asked a variety of questions about their exercise habits. Then they proceed to answer addition questions about academics and their perspective on exercise. We then gathered this data and came to the unfortunate decision that there was no definite conclusion. There was a definite positive trend between the two however more data needed to be gathered. We had an event full process creating our wordpress. Our original design received very negative feedback from our home group. In our defense our home group are very picky and artistically gifted. We then changed our background layout and picture to one that was much more entertaining. Our new background stood out and also moved slightly as one scrolled down. Our webtext is easily navigated through the menu at the top left. This split our webtext into easily accessed individual pages. We also added in different pictures on each page to go along with each section that added a little spice to them. We tried to make our design colorful and easily accessed primarily. We also added a definition of exercise in order to better inform. We also added in alternative text to every single one of our pictures in order to allow for easier access to blind individuals.
