For this extension project I wanted to do something that other students wouldn’t do. With this in mind I created a collage. This was made on top of a painting to make it multi-media and use textures to make it more of a unique piece. I first had to make the painting that would have the collage on top. I wanted it to be simple and use contrast as well. I used white and blue for this. Originally, I wanted the blue to be black, but I didn’t have the black at home like I thought I did so I had to use the blue. Blue is also my favorite color, so it worked out. The next thing I did was go through all the magazines in my house and cut out pictures that I found appealing and would look good together. I started with the heart made of sweethearts which I thought was a cool big piece that I could use. I also didn’t want to cover the whole painting and wanted to keep the swirl art itself. There was some granola with strawberry pieces that I put with the heart because they were both food aspects that were similar in size of the food used to make the picture. I added a camera lens and the Tesla logo to add in forms of technology. There was a makeup ad in one of the magazines I was going through so I decided to cut up each lipstick and the one mascara individually and spread a majority of them across the canvas. There was also a picture of a cat playing with a football and I found that ironic because there is the puppy bowl. I also put a guitar picture because I like music and thought that was a fun way to add that in. There is also a coffee cup and while I don’t like coffee, I used to make coffee and love Starbucks hot chocolates so that is why there is also a logo for Starbucks next to the coffee. I also put a chocolate covered strawberry that has lines on it to make it look like a football to tie into the cat. There is a picture of an ocean landscape with rockery around and a sunflower. I thought it was a fun way to add in a peaceful aspect to the artwork. In addition to that I added a 3-D flower and dog sticker to add dimension to the painting. I had white and black striped tissue paper at home that I cut into squares and crumpled it up so that there would be texture. The last thing I added was a dime that had a hole cut into it which I strung across the canvas. Placing all the pictures took time and thought because I wanted it to be perfect. Overall, I think the project was a fun way for me to show what I am like, as in my interests, and use my creativity to make something different than I normally would.
I love this! You created a new type of narrative (about yourself), but you also incorporated multiple mediums–which shows how you now would have a new row on your literacy time line. The way you marbled the paint makes me think of being underwater.
Overall, great job, and what a unique project!
