Don’t wait!
High school… The place where you learn who you are and what you want to be. It is basically our transition into adulthood and life in general. See because middle was like our transition into being a teenager. Then we went to high school which is like phase three out of four for life. By the end of high school, you figure out if you want to do with your life. But it is interesting because people throughout most of our high school careers tell us “Ah don’t worry about it you have time “but, that time goes by fast and I think most of us can attest to that. See for me high school was a mix of fun and torture. I was a multi-sport athlete and was actually pretty good had a few offers and was generally popular. Me saying this, makes it not sound too bad right? Like most people say “Oh Javareah you had a good high school career you never got bullied or anything”. This use to light my fuse every time my friend told me this because nobody ever knew what I was going through at home or outside of school. No one knew about my mom being sick and always in the hospital and that is where I was doing homework or at home taking care of her with my father and helping around the house but still having to find time for school and all the other things I was involved in. Because of me knowing my story and what I have been through I actually took it upon myself and made myself promise to not judge someone without knowing their story because the saying “ never judge a book by its cover” really stuck to me and my mom always told me Javareah your special and that you need to help and not harm. So, when that was my drive and passion was to help and not harm I thought why in high school does every teacher tell us that we have time to figure things out when it’s like no we need to be woken up to reality now! Like right now because if we don’t then when we graduate life hits us and knocks us down and plays with us and we don’t know how to get up and fight instead we give up. It just doesn’t make sense but before I end this speech I will leave you with one thing and that is don’t wait if you want to do something or talk and speak up and take on certain task do it now because you’re wasting opportunities and for me I know kids who would kill to have some of the things that I have or you have and they might not ever get their shot in life to do something they love.
Reflection
I wanted to write this speech because I believe that high school is the time in our lives where we fall or rise. I say this meaning that when we are in high school all we hear is don’t worry you have time to do assignments, you have time to apply to colleges and scholarships, you have time to get a job or play sports. When that time is supposed to prepare us for the real world. When we graduate most of us don’t have time to waste anymore because we are now trying to survive so while we are in high school we must learn to attack everything. When we attack everything any challenges that we face aren’t going to knock us down to the point where we give up and throw in the towel instead we fight to get what we want. For me I realized this early luckily and I am so thankful for my family being the way it is because my mother and father broke their necks for me and my brothers and they showed me that we never have time to wait you need to attack because the world will never wait for you. Instead the world will leave you behind and will never look back so don’t wait just go and just do it.
