American Sign Language is a form of communication for deaf and severer hearing loss people. ASL is another way to communicate, Its just like talking in a different language that the rest of the world doesn’t even know that much about. Most people have seem ASL but don’t know much of it besides the basics like the alphabet or even less. Being able to talk to another person who speaks the same as you is always relieving and its even more rare that someone who is completely deaf finds others that can understand what they are signing without an interpreter.
I chose ALS because it can sometimes be the only way a deaf person can communicate and its important to have awareness. This picture is a digram of how to do all of the signs in the Alphabet one letter at a time manually. I think that people should know at least the alphabet so in a pinch they can try and help a deaf person feel more comfortable when they need help. This picture shows how complex the ALS alphabet is and how much practice it can take to master just the basics. Once a person knows all of the letters they don’t sign everything out letter by letter because that would take too long so they learn the paraphrase to most words.
ASL can be life changing for a person. I wanted to show and bring up the positive benefits that knowing sign language has on a deaf person. ASL is a important genre in the deaf community, its just as important as normal speech and communication for all hearing abled bodies. Its a way for people to function in their own little community and have a voice.
