Most people associate closed captions with foreign movies or in a context where they cannot understand the language being spoken. If closed captions do not serve a purpose to a non hearing impaired person they can get annoyed and sometimes it even leads people to not watch the thing that they wanted. People with a hearing impairment use closed captions as the only way to enjoy certain things like movies, youtube, Netflix, music ect. Closed captions can sometimes be the only way a deaf person can enjoy something with visual information.

The pictures I choose are from Parks and Rec and 30Rock . They both have awesome funny comedy with an amazing cast. I think it would be important to have captions on both of these shows because they can say some witty stuff that would not make sense if the captions were not on to keep up with the stuff they are talking about. One nice thing about Netflix is that they have a feature that allows you to choose when the Closed captions are on and it allows people of all audiences to have the ability to enjoy movies and shows.

This is quite a discussed topic between people who don’t like closed captions and people who need them to understand the content. I thought it was a important genre to bring up when we are talking about the hearing impaired and categories with words and talking. I understand why some people do not like the words to be on a screen when they watch something because its a distraction. But when people refuse to have closed captions on movies and TV its leaving out a whole group of people from enjoying a simple thing that everyone else can do.  This is not a normal genre to write about but then again I am not writing about a regular topic and this needed to be addressed. It is a genre because it requires some literary knowledge and interpretation of the words to understand what is going on in the show.
