Healthy Relationship Site: Internet Resources for Teachers

Healthy Relationships: A Guide for Teaching Healthy Relationships

Summary: This website provides teachers with a long list of curriculum and other resources in order to best teach about healthy relationships. This ranges from providing quizzes about healthy relationships to lesson plans to explain how peer pressure can impact a relationship. What is amazing about this tool is the range of topics that it covers under healthy relationships such as gender, LGBTQ relationships, and abuse in unhealthy relationships. These resources and lesson plans can easily be integrated into a classroom.

Core Integration: This website provides several lesson plans that allow you to link the topic of healthy relationships to many topics, one topic being writing. An assignment that I would have students do is write a short piece of literature in whatever format they choose (poetry, fiction, or non-fiction) that describes a healthy relationship. They can either create characters that have a healthy relationship or talk about one of their own. Since a healthy relationship can range from friendship to parental relationships, to romantic, students have a wide variety of topics to cover, and everyone should have something to discuss. Students would then illustrate their writing, and “publish it”, sharing their work with the rest of the class.

National Health Education Standards (NHES):

  • Each lesson and resource provided can fit a national health education standard, but the website itself does not meet any national health education standards.

Core Content Standards:

  • 6.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
