Description:
This book is a helpful guide to help young girls improve their health, in a healthy way. This book focuses on positive self image, choosing nutritious foods, and exercising regularly. This book gives many suggestions for children to change their bodies and captures young readers by humorous drawings. This book does not need to be read from cover to cover because of the multiple chapters within this book. This book is an overall guide for girls to having a healthy life style and gives lots of ideas for fun physical activities.
Integration:
Since both girls and boys struggle with body image and healthy living, I think that this book would be beneficial for both genders to listen to. Even though this book is directed towards girls, I would use it for both boys and girls. The information inside the book is beneficial information that everyone would learn from. I could read parts of this book and have students reflect on what a healthy body looks like in journals for a writing integration. I would also talk about goal setting and have students create a goals that they would want to reach in physical activity and have them create a plan of action and then keep track on what they have done to achieve these goals. With this, I would then have students reflect back on how they feel after they had exercised and see if it is affecting them positively.
Exert:
“Imagine this: You’re lounging on your bed daydreaming about having a perfect body and perfect looks. You think:
What’s wrong with this picture? Well, most importantly, day dreaming about the “perfect” body isn’t a healthy thing to do. Wishing you looked like someone else (a celebrity, a friend of yours, a model, even a princess) can make you feel terrible about yourself. You begin to think that you don’t measure up, which destroys your confidence. Your self-esteem nose-dives and crashes to the ground in a heap. The result? You feel worse than ever and when this happens, its harder to pursue your goals, enjoy life and live the dreams that really matter.
P.S. You don’t need Price Charming to sweep you off your feet. Your own two feet can get you exactly where you want to go.
