Text from the book:
“Deep in the water where the fish hangout lives a glum gloomy swimmer with an ever-present pout. I’m a pout-pout fish with a pout-pout face, so I spread the deary-wearies all over the place.”
Integration:
Writing– giving the students a writing activity that asks them “what turns your frown upside down?” or a writing assignment that asks the students what makes them crabby giving them a space to draw a picture along with there work.
Art– Students could create their own pout-pout fish either with paper or a recycled fish mobile.
Language Arts– Students could create a news paper article “The pout-pout post.” This post would be about the what new words they learned in the book. There would be a box for the vocabulary word. Another box that asked for what it means, and then a final box for how the word is used in the story. This is a great activity to teach students some of the vocabulary used in this story.
