Where/how students can access resource: Computer free time, indoor recess, after school or a reward.
Brief Description:
ZOOM is a classic kids TV show on PBS. This resource is the link to a variety of game descriptions and rules that kids can play that were done on the TV show. The categories of games are “Chase Games”, “Physical Challenges”, “Relay Races”, “Sports Games” for games that have to do with physical activity. This website also his “Mind Games”and “Word Games”, but for my purposes I will be focusing on the games that get kids up and moving. I chose this resource because it is a show a lot of kids will be familiar with, and their catch phrase is “turn off your TV and do it” or “turn off your computer and play”. The purpose of the source is to have kids engaged both mentally and physically. I also liked that it was a source put out by PBS, as they are a source that teachers can trust for good, safe content.
Specific Activity: Physical Activity, “Hankie Hop”
Integration with core content:
These activities could be used as the carrot to get students to complete less desired activities within their core content areas.
They could also be used as short breaks when student’s need a chance to move in order to refocus on core content.
Science: A lot of the games have kids acting like animals, particularly sea creatures. If you were doing a unit of study on animals, or oceanography these games could be connected.
