This article is extremely direct and simple. It takes about 5 minutes to read, but it is informative because it outlines simple steps to take, instead of a bunch of facts mixed in with advise. A lot of parents are reluctant to teach their kids about body parts and sexual abuse because they want their children to remain innocent, but this article illustrates the imperatives of being frank when it comes to teaching children about their body parts because it makes them less vulnerable to predators. This article could be useful at the beginning of the year and the teacher could write a short letter to parents explaining that although their children won’t be taught sexual health explicitly in class, learning about unwanted touch is important for K-2 students. The teacher can provide this article with the letter, and encourage parents to read it.
