Documentary:
Producer: Attitude TV
Year: 2016
Length: 28:16
Description: This is a good documentary for students to watch because it not only explains how some people acquired their brain injuries but also how they live with them. I think that this is a good way for students to see the affects of traumatic brain injuries in real people. It would prompt a good discussion with students about brain injuries and what happens when people suffer from a brain injury. I think that the students may have some questions after watching this documentary so it would lead nicely into a discussion. I would have the students watch this towards the end of the unit after they have learned a little about brain injuries.
Review: This documentary introduces the audience to 3 individuals who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries. It tells their stories and how they acquired the brain injury. Both the people with the brain injuries and their family speak about the injury and the experience of living with the brain injury. It highlights their recovery and doctors are interviewed about the brain injuries and recoveries of the people in focus. The documentary also goes into how a traumatic brain injury occurs with a video simulation of a brain. It lists a lot of symptoms of brain injuries and how different people have different experiences.
Integration:
Core Area: Writing
Description: I would include a follow up assignment for my class to write a letter to a friend about what they learned about in the documentary. This would be their project for the end of the unit. The students will work to write this letter to state what they have learned in this unit and they will provide some safety considerations for their friend.
