  • This fun and interactive website includes games and useful information for children in the case of an emergency. Games that this website has include Disaster Master and Build a Kit. These fun games test the knowledge of students when they are faced with natural disasters and emergencies, such as house fires. Students are also asked to create their own disaster preparedness kit and what things that kit might include. This website is perfect for kids because it creates a positive way to teach children about scary situations. It is best to have students be prepared through the use of a calm and fun game so that they are prepared and aware in the face of an emergency. This website would be a great activity to have students do when they are working in the computer lab or have “free time” in the classroom. Students will be asked to complete these two games for credit in the classroom to test their knowledge after learning all about disaster preparedness.
  • Being a Hero is Fun! Students will interact with this website in order to learn important and useful information about disasters that could take place.

  • Core Integration: Writing
    • Students will be asked to create an emergency kit and a family communication plan of their own, as a follow up assignment after playing games and going through the website. Students will be asked to discuss with their families what their family “Plan of action” would be if a disaster happened. Students will create a write-up of this plan through the drafting processes. Students will be able to demonstrate their use of drafting to create a final product that each family member would sign and then the student would turn it in to the teacher. Students will then create a write up about the things that they would include in their own personal emergency kit. Students will be asked to write the reasons behind why they would include those items and how they would be beneficial.
