Description:: Lauren’s Kingdom is an interactive storybook designed for kids telling about the story of Lauren and when she was hurt as a child by a nanny. This is a fictitious story where she describes her house as the kingdom, her parents as the king and queen, and the babysitter that was abusive to her (represented as an ogre. She talks about her friendship with Rodney, a child who has also been abused, and how together, they work on the brave task of telling their parents about their abuse. Children have the option of having the app read to them, or them reading it themselves. There are also puzzles.

Core Integration:

 

I can integrate this into a literature lesson by asking summarizing questions about the app such as, “What are some things the babysitter did wrong?” “What do Lauren and Rodney have in common?

Students can also write stories about their own adventures, in how they have overcome a tough decision, and how they ended up choosing the choice they did. They can also write about trusted adults helping them along the way.
