The application I would use in my classroom is “See.Touch.Learn.” in order to assist in my students learning health content as well as implementing it into core content. This application is initially designed for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder or any other special needs. However, after working with it individually, I enjoyed how easy it was to use and how it can be individualized. The application uses words as well as photos to instruct the students/user to complete tasks. These tasks and commands/photos can be individualized to meet the needs of the student and to change it based on the content desired. There is also an option for the command to be said out loud for students that have a hard time reading. I would have this available for students after they finished the assigned task or if there was any extra time. I also think this application could be helpful for students to use one-on-one to learn the content. The application can be found on the iTunes app store for iPads and tablets for $0.99.
The standards in which this application meets are all of my health standards: Standard One: Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health, Standard Two: Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology and other factors on health behaviors, Standard Three: Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health, Standard Four: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks and Standard Eight: Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health. I believe this meets the needs of all of the standards because the application can be adapted to meet the needs of any of them, and can be individualized for the individual students.
I would add this application into a reading and language literacy lesson. I believe it fits the needs of this core content because the application requires reading, writing and understanding when listening to cues. This meets the Common Core Standard of CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3. Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
